Gary Pearce is one of North Carolina’s most experienced political observers.
He has been a newspaper reporter and editor, Governor’s Press Secretary, political consultant, public relations consultant, author and blogger.
He was a key adviser to Governor Jim Hunt through Hunt’s campaigns and four terms as Governor. He is author of the book Jim Hunt: A Biography.
He co-published the blog TalkingAboutPolitics.com with Republican Carter Wrenn from 2005-2019.
Gary grew up in Raleigh, went to public schools there and is a graduate of N.C. State University. He began his career at The News & Observer. He became Governor Hunt’s Press Secretary in 1976. In 1985, he founded his own consulting and public relations firm.
In 2012 he was inducted into the North Carolina Media and Journalism Hall of Fame.
Gary and his wife Gwyn divide their time between Raleigh and Nags Head, NC. They have a son, James Burgwyn Pearce, a daughter, Maggie Pearce Dill, and a dog, Ringo.
